Sports Betting Alliance puts forward tribal sports betting plan

the Sports Betting Alliance, an advocacy group for legal sports betting across the US, has released a plan to bring sports betting to California, but one Indian Gaming Association committee chair says he doesn’t expect the plan to survive.
Casino Reports first revealed the Sports Betting Alliance proposal, which focused on creating a single Native American tribal operation in California, given at the Indian Gaming Tradeshow & Convention in San Diego.
The 109 tribes in California combined into one entity would then agree on contracts with sportsbook. Sportsbooks would pay a minimum guarantee per tribe to take over sports betting operations.
The tribes would determine the number of licenses available in California, but the proposal suggests that as many as four operators could launch.
But in a post on X, Conference Chair of the Indian Gaming Association Victor Rocha said, “I spoke with several California tribal leaders tonight. It’s DOA.”
The Sports Betting Alliance idea was proposed by DraftKings and FanDuel, two members of the Sports Betting Alliance. Both have been prominent in supporting California sports betting, with FanDuel contributing more than US$35 million and DraftKings more than US$34 million to help get Proposition 27 passed by voters in 2022.
