Sportradar reports a decline in sports match-fixing

Sportradar Integrity Services, a unit of sports data firm Sportradar, has announced that match-fixing in global sport declined in 2024. The same unit previously noted that events under suspicion of match-fixing increased in 2022 and 2023.
Andreas Krannich, Executive Vice President of Integrity, Rights Protection & Regulatory Services, Sportradar, said, “While the notable reduction in suspicious matches in 2024 gives us reason to be optimistic, it also signals the need for continued vigilance and innovation, given that the number remains significant.”
Sportradar Integrity Services surveyed 70 sports worldwide, covering 850,000 events, and found 1,108 suspicious events, a decline of 17% from the year prior. The majority of suspicious events were held in Europe, which, according to the Sportradar press release, has historically faced the most issues with sporting integrity. While it saw the highest number of suspicious events, Europe still reduced these by 34% in 2024 compared to 2023. Africa saw 69 suspicious events, a 36% decline from 2023.
Sportradar detected 881 suspicious soccer games in 2023, which dropped by 18% to 721 in 2024. Brazilian soccer games posted a significant drop in suspicious games, falling by 48% to 57 from 110 the year prior.
Krannich continued: “Our investment in innovation combined with data insights into the betting industry and continued education on integrity are at the forefront of keeping pace with the ever-evolving global sports integrity landscape. We remain committed to refining our methods and capabilities and collaborating across the sports and betting industries to support foundational fair play and safeguard the integrity of sports worldwide.”
Sportradar Integrity Services uses AI and an advanced data analytics model to build its Universal Fraud Detection System (UFDS), which it used to observe events during 2024. The AI technology flags unusual activity, like significant bets on unlikely outcomes, which the integrity experts at Sportradar investigate.
