The NBA and its players’ association have both said that they support restricting the kind of bets that can be placed on games to reduce possible athlete interference.

The calls for limiting the number of betting markets available on games, especially player props, come after a third player from the league is now under a federal gambling investigation.

Malik Beasley, earlier this summer, joined Terry Rozier and Jontay Porter as players currently involved in an investigation.

Porter already pleaded guilty to federal conspiracy charges in July 2024 after he admitted to taking himself out of two games early to influence prop bets on his performance.

Following this, the league asked its partner sportsbooks to remove the option to bet the under on player props for players on two-way contracts. Now, along with the players’ association, they support further action.

An NBA spokesperson said, “Protecting the integrity of our game is paramount, and we believe reasonable limitations on certain prop bets should be given due consideration.”

The league is not on its own in these matters, as the MLB is facing similar issues with regard to micro betting that has resulted in two Cleveland Guardians players being suspended.

Ohio and New Jersey have also taken steps to limit prop betting within their respective states.
