HB 605, was introduced by Connecticut State Rep. Christopher Rosario this week to legalize in-flight sports wagering.

The bill would only be sanctioned on flights terminating or originating from Connecticut. It calls for regulators to ensure that online sports betting complies with Connecticut’s established sports wagering laws and works in connection with the Connecticut Lottery, Mohegan Tribe and Mashantucket Pequot Tribe.

Eight percent of proceeds generated from in-flight sports betting will go toward the Constitution’s State public education fund, which promises to support education in rural and urban areas.

The introduction of bill HB 6051 comes a week after DraftKings and airline operator Delta Air announced a partnership to build up Delta’s gaming portfolio.

However, U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut wrote to DraftKings’ CEO to express concern over this new partnership.

“This new partnership advances the proliferation of sports betting, further fueling a crisis of problem gambling,” Blumenthal wrote. “Betting companies have leveraged data collected on consumers to entice them through bonuses and promotions to hook them on this addictive product – resulting in a public health crisis that is producing huge costs in addiction, financial ruin, family disruption and much more.”

Delaware has seen success with its igaming markets in 2024 even as lawmakers look to increase the scope of these markets. The state reported igaming revenues of $45.3 million in December, an increase on the $39.4 million generated in December 2023.
