The United States iGaming Revenue Report – December 2024
An overview of igaming revenue in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, West Virginia, Delaware, and Rhode Island, the seven states where online gambling is legal in the U.S.
National
Total igaming revenue for December 2024 in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, West Virginia, Delaware, and Rhode Island (estimated) added up to US$778.6 million compared to US$582.2 million in December 2023. Michigan, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Delaware set all-time records in revenue for the month.
1. Michigan
December igaming gross receipts totaled US$244 million in the Great Lakes State, setting a new record by beating the previous one from November of US$226 million. It also compared to a mere US$181.4 million in December 2023, itself a new record that eclipsed the old one set in November 2023.
Michigan’s 15 online-casino operators paid US$45.9 million in taxes compared to US$34.1 year over year, of which US$11.4 million was collected by the city of Detroit, US$5.7 million went to the tribes, and the rest was paid to the state.
2. New Jersey
Revenue earned from online-casino gambling in New Jersey in December totaled US$228 million compared to US$180.3 million reported in December 2023 (that was the first time igaming in New Jersey breached the US$180 million mark). For the year, internet gaming won US$2.39 billion, reflecting growth of 24.1% compared to US$1.92 billion for 2023 (+24.1%)
Golden Nugget led the pack, registering US$66.2 million compared to US$52.8 million in 2023, followed by Resorts Digital at US$58.4 million versus US$46.1 million year over year and Borgata/BetMGM at US$53.2 million compared to US$40.6 million.
New Jersey collected US$34.1 million in online-gambling taxes in December compared to US$27.1 million year over year. For 2024, igaming paid US$358.3 million in taxes.
3. Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania’s igaming revenue in December 2024 was US$223.7 million, which set an all-time record for any month and was nearly US$60 million more than December 2023’s US$165.1 million. The previous high for igaming revenue in a month was US$200.5 million, set in November 2024.
Hollywood Penn National Gaming continues to hold its perch at the top of the list with a gross of US$86.4 million compared to US$61 million, while second-place Valley Forge earned US$61.3 million compared to US$41.3 million.
Pennsylvania collected US$98.2 million in taxes compared to last year’s US$70.8 million.
4. Connecticut
Connecticut’s revenue from online-gambling in December was US$45.3 million compared to US$39.4 million in December 2023. DraftKings (Foxwoods) and FanDuel (Mohegan Sun) paid their 18% to the state in taxes, adding up to US$8.2 million compared to US$7.1 million last year.
5. West Virginia
The Mountain State’s igaming revenue for December came in at US$27 million, a new all-time high for a month and US$3.6 million over the previous record of US$23.4 million set in October 2024. It was also nearly double December 2023’s total of US$14.8 million.
6. Delaware
Delaware’s December 2024 igaming revenue was US$7.7 million. Irrelevant year-over-year comparisons with 888’s paltry take, which rarely got beyond US$1.2 million, ended in December. Rush Street Interactive took over in January 2024, so the comparisons going forward are apples to apples.
Online video lottery (slot) games once again accounted for the lion’s share of income at US$5.1 million, while table games generated US$2.6 million.
7. Rhode Island
Rhode Island’s igaming revenue, monopolized by Bally’s, generated only US$2.7 million in November, the lowest gross since July’s US$2.5 million and a half-million below October’s US$3.2 million. (Rhode Island reports in the first week of the second month, so December’s numbers will show up in early February). For December, we’re splitting the difference and estimating US$2.9 million, which will be updated in two weeks.
