FanDuel reports record US$16.6 million handle on Super Bowl LIX

FanDuel bettors placed over US$16.6 million on Super Bowl LIX, marking a 19% increase from Super Bowl LXIII and a new record for the big game.
According to the sportsbook’s operator, Flutter, most bettors backed the over of 48.5 combined points. The Philadelphia Eagles almost hit this total in defeating the Kansas City Chiefs, while the combined score of 40-22 was more than enough for this wager to hit.
Over three million active users wagered on the game. At its peak, customer activity reached 70,000 bets a minute.
Saquoan Barkley was a favorite among FanDuel bettors, collecting the highest betting handle and wagers for Super Bowl MVP and the most action as an anytime touchdown scorer.
Barkley failed to score a touchdown, and Jalen Hurts was declared Super Bowl MVP. Hurts was the second most popular pick with FanDuel bettors.
FanDuel hosted the Kick of Destiny competition ahead of the Super Bowl, which saw brothers Eli and Peyton Manning going head-to-head in a live field goal competition.
Almost two million FanDuel users participated in the competition, with over one million picking Eli, the eventual winner. The winners of the free competition received $10 in bonus bets to use at FanDuel.
The record-breaking Super Bowl betting numbers come as FanDuel recently revealed a significant uptake in its responsible gambling My Spend tool during the NFL season. The company estimated that 3.5 million players reviewed their activity with this tool, launched on 10 December.
