Brazil’s Secretary of Prizes and Betting at the Ministry of Finance, Regis Dudena, has announced plans to certify and register B2B providers in Brazil.

While the certification plans don’t include full licensing, some form of certification for gaming systems and software providers will be enacted.

Speaking at a discussion hosted by ICE Barcelona, Dudena said, “It is increasingly necessary to have this type of registration.”

Licensed operators within Brazil are currently competing with offshore operators that work outside of Brazil’s regulatory framework. However, the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting is now collaborating with social media platforms to ban advertising by these offshore platforms.

Stricter advertising guidelines for online gambling platforms are also under consideration, as concerns have been raised regarding heavy advertising from newly licensed operators.

Brazil’s newly established regulated igaming market is undergoing significant changes as it grows, with regulators keen to ensure it remains fair for players and operators.

Dozens of operators have launched in Brazil since the igaming market went live on 1 January, including Digitain Group on 22 January.
