“Bringing land-based play online is at the heart of our mission to deliver a truly authentic casino experience straight to players’ devices,” Aristocrat Chief Strategy Officer Superna Kalle said in a statement.  “We’re incredibly proud to partner with BetMGM on this launch and continue expanding access to real slot machine play. Together, we’re creating new ways for players to enjoy the games they love while preserving the authenticity and trust that make the land-based casino experience so compelling.”

The collaboration joins Awager’s proprietary remote gaming technology and BetMGM’s online casino platform to deliver a differentiated player experience that bridges the gap between land-based and digital gaming. Players will have access to 50 cabinets featuring more than 30 unique game titles. Through Awager’s platform, players connect to physical slot machines, including popular titles from Aristocrat Gaming such as Buffalo Ascension and Lightning Link, operating in regulated studio environments via live 4K video, authentic true machine audio, and real-time responsiveness.

Every spin reflects the actual land-based gameplay, providing the same gaming experience players know from casino floors while offering the convenience of online access.

“At BetMGM, we’re committed to bringing new and innovative gaming experiences to our players,” said BetMGM Director of Gaming Rob Passerino. “The addition of Awager’s live slots offering creates an exciting new way for our players to engage with slot machines digitally. This is just the beginning of our partnership, and we look forward to continuing to work together to explore new opportunities that further enhance the BetMGM online casino experience.”

Awager’s technology captures details of the land-based gaming experience through video streaming, authentic machine sound and low-latency responsiveness. The result is a gaming experience that replicates the look, feel and excitement of playing directly in front of a slot cabinet.

Built on more than a decade of innovation, Awager’s platform combines proprietary hardware, software and streaming technology to support a wide range of slot cabinets and gaming environments. The company currently operates multiple studio locations across North America and Europe.

The Backstory

Aristocrat’s online push moves from theory to casino floor

Awager’s partnership with BetMGM in New Jersey puts one of Aristocrat’s more distinctive online bets into a live regulated market: remote access to actual slot cabinets rather than digital replicas. The launch gives BetMGM and Borgata Online players access to physical machines streamed from studio environments, including Aristocrat titles such as Buffalo Ascension and Lightning Link. It is a practical test of a broader strategy Aristocrat has been building through acquisitions, internal restructuring and a renewed effort to move its land-based intellectual property into digital channels.

The concept arrives as suppliers and operators are trying to solve a persistent challenge in U.S. online casino: how to make mobile play feel less interchangeable. Most online slots are built for screens from the start. Awager’s model instead leans into the trust, presentation and familiarity of casino machines, with video, machine audio and real-time play designed to mirror a land-based experience. For BetMGM, the appeal is differentiation in a competitive New Jersey market. For Aristocrat, the launch demonstrates how its slot cabinet heritage can be converted into new online products without abandoning the physical attributes that made those games valuable.

A division built to unlock land-based brands

The BetMGM rollout follows a period in which Aristocrat has assembled a larger interactive business around the premise that its strongest casino brands remain underused online. In a recent interview, Aristocrat Interactive CEO Dylan Slaney described the opportunity as a chance to unlock the Aristocrat Interactive “treasure trove”, particularly by taking proven land-based slots to mobile devices and deeper operator partnerships.

Slaney took over the division after Aristocrat’s acquisition-led expansion created a broader interactive platform. NeoGames, Aspire Global, BtoBet and Pariplay gave the company lottery, platform, sports betting and aggregation capabilities. Awager added a different capability: a remote slot product tied directly to physical cabinets. That makes the BetMGM launch more than a single content integration. It is an example of Aristocrat trying to connect its traditional strengths in gaming machines with the infrastructure and operator relationships needed to compete online.

The timing also matters. Slaney has said the company’s priorities include increasing revenue from existing content, doubling down in core markets such as the U.S., the U.K. and Europe and embedding more innovation into the business. New Jersey remains one of the most mature U.S. iGaming markets and a proving ground for products that require player trust, operational reliability and regulatory comfort. If Awager can show sustained engagement there, it could support Aristocrat’s argument that its land-based catalog can generate online value in multiple formats, not only through conventional mobile slot adaptations.

Authenticity becomes the selling point

Awager’s model sits within a broader industry discussion about how much of the casino floor can be translated to online play. Suppliers have long converted familiar slot math, themes and brands into mobile games, but cabinet-based presentation has been harder to replicate. Physical machines use lighting, sound, button panels, screen configuration and the social context of a casino to create a distinct experience. Remote streaming attempts to preserve more of those cues while adding the convenience of online access.

That question has been especially visible in the debate over classic stepper slots. In a recent industry roundtable on bringing stepper slots online, executives from IGT, AGS and Light & Wonder said the genre’s appeal rests on simple mechanics, recognizable audio and nostalgia. They also noted that online adaptations must avoid overcomplicating the experience and must be optimized for mobile behavior. Awager takes a more direct route by keeping the cabinet itself in play, reducing the distance between casino product and digital session.

The approach could also help address one reason some land-based players remain skeptical of online casino. Digital slots can feel abstract compared with a cabinet on a casino floor. A live-streamed machine offers a visible, tangible point of play, with every spin tied to a real cabinet. That does not eliminate the need for strong compliance, responsible gambling tools or product education, but it gives operators a different way to explain the experience to players accustomed to physical slots.

Growth brings scrutiny

Aristocrat’s move deeper into online casino has not been viewed without caution. Morningstar analyst Angus Hewitt recently argued that investors may be too optimistic about Aristocrat’s real-money online gaming prospects, saying the company remains more competitively advantaged in traditional gaming machines than in iGaming. The research note, covered in an article on analyst caution over Aristocrat’s iGaming strength, pointed to the crowded nature of online casino and said Aristocrat had yet to replicate the moat it enjoys in leased electronic gaming machines.

That critique frames the stakes for Awager. Aristocrat has a powerful North American installed base and a deep cabinet portfolio, but online casino is dominated by operators and suppliers competing on speed, promotions, content volume and exclusive games. A streamed physical slot product may help Aristocrat avoid competing only as another digital content supplier. It also creates operational complexity: studio environments, machine uptime, streaming quality, latency and jurisdiction-specific approvals all become central to the player experience.

For BetMGM, those risks are balanced against the need to keep online casino fresh in a state where major operators already offer large game libraries. A product that lets players interact with real machines may encourage curiosity, longer sessions or crossover engagement with recognizable casino brands. It also gives BetMGM a way to promote innovation without depending solely on new themes or bonus mechanics.

Lottery, casino and the omnichannel thesis

Aristocrat Interactive’s recent activity shows that the company is not pursuing a single online path. Its launch of a full turnkey iLottery solution in Massachusetts under NeoGames US broadened its public-sector footprint and brought Aristocrat IP into a lottery context. That rollout, detailed in coverage of Aristocrat Interactive’s Massachusetts lottery launch, included platform services, eInstant games, draw-based products, analytics, managed services and responsible gameplay tools.

The Massachusetts project and the Awager-BetMGM launch serve different markets, but both reflect the same strategic direction: use Aristocrat’s content, data systems and operating platforms to reach players beyond the casino floor. In lottery, that means turnkey digital infrastructure for a state agency. In online casino, it means operator integrations that convert land-based familiarity into remote entertainment. Together, they suggest Aristocrat is trying to build a diversified interactive business rather than relying on one product type.

The omnichannel argument is also supported by changing player behavior. Casino influencer Brian Christopher, who has moved from land-based slot content into real-money online play, has argued that online slots can complement rather than cannibalize brick-and-mortar casinos. In an interview on demystifying online slots, he said online play can introduce people to games they later seek out in casinos, while land-based venues retain advantages tied to entertainment, atmosphere and social experience.

Why New Jersey matters

New Jersey is a critical test because it combines scale, experienced regulators and sophisticated players. Products that work there can influence operator expectations elsewhere, especially as other U.S. states consider online casino expansion. Awager’s launch does not by itself settle questions about whether live-streamed slot cabinets can become a mainstream category, but it gives Aristocrat and BetMGM real market data on demand, retention and player trust.

The partnership also points to where online casino competition may be heading. Content libraries are already broad. The next advantage may come from formats that feel proprietary, difficult to copy and tied to recognizable real-world experiences. For Aristocrat, that means using the credibility of its machines and brands in new channels. For BetMGM, it means adding a product that looks less like another line in a game lobby and more like a bridge to the casino floor.

If the model gains traction, Awager could become a useful piece of Aristocrat’s broader interactive strategy. If it struggles, the launch will still clarify the limits of transporting physical slot play into digital environments. Either outcome is significant because it tests the central premise behind Aristocrat’s online expansion: that the company’s land-based strengths can be converted into durable advantages in regulated digital gaming.
