Media and online gambling regulator Australian Communications and Media Authority has directed Internet service providers to block access to five unlicensed gambling websites that were operating illegally in the country.

The blocked domains are Best Aussie Pokies, winspirit.online, win-spirit.online, winspirit.team, and winspirit1.com. The platforms were determined to breach the Interactive Gambling Act 2001. This law regulates online betting and blocks unlicensed operators from offering gambling services to Australians.

Since the website blocking initiative began in late 2019, the Australian Communications and Media Authority has restricted access to 1,279 gambling and affiliate websites, including eight in February. The regulator said blocking is one of several enforcement tools to reduce consumer exposure to unlicensed gambling services.

Because of strict Australian Communications and Media Authority regulations, about 220 illegal operators have left the Australian market since 2017.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority continues to warn consumers that unauthorized sites typically lack responsible gambling protections, increasing the risk of fraud and financial harm.

The regulator encouraged players to check the official register of licensed providers before gambling online and suggested users report suspicious or illegal platforms.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority said it will continue to escalate efforts to prevent access to unregulated operators that fail to comply with Australian gambling laws.
