Allywn North America exec appointed CEO of The Lottery Corporation in Australia

Australian lottery provider The Lottery Corporation has announced Wayne Pickup as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

Pickup, currently the Chief Executive of lottery operator Allwyn North America, will join The Lottery Corporation on 24 November 2025. He brings 25 years of experience in the lottery industry, including as Chief Executive of Lotto New Zealand.

Current Chief Executive of The Lottery Corporation, Sue van der Merwe, announced her retirement on 24 March 2025, after three years leading the company and a 35-year career in the lottery industry. Van der Merwe will continue in her role until November, when Pickup begins.

Before starting, Pickup will observe the board. The day-to-day operations will continue to be run by the executive leadership team under the board’s management.

The Australian lottery market has tremendous potential for innovation and growth and I look forward to working with the talented team at The Lottery Corporation to deliver value for shareholders while enhancing the lottery experience for millions of customers across Australia.”

Before this move, Pickup, in his role as Chief Executive of Allwyn North America, helped launch 300 instant games in Washington, DC through the local lottery provider DC Lottery.
