Optimove report finds US bettors wager more than average

Bettors in the US spend more on gambling than the global average, a trend which is accelerating, according to relationship marketing platform Optimove.
Data provided by the US Gaming Pulse Report for May 2025 found that the average deposit by US players was US$604 in May 2025, which equates to a 10% year-on-year increase, compared to a global average increase of 2% over the same period.
This figure was also up from the total recorded in March’s Gaming Pulse Report, which recorded an average deposit of US$538 for US players.
The report also analysed data gathered from 3.2 million bettors in the US and 21 million globally to establish a benchmark for comparison in both sports betting and casino segments.
Casino bettors in the US spent an average of US$8,259 in May 2025, which was over six times higher than the global average. The number of casino bettors also grew 30% year-on-year, compared to a 14% global rise.
The pattern of sports betting in the US was less dramatic. Average monthly sports betting spend in the US was US$1001, compared to US$380 globally, but there was a smaller increase of 14% in the number of sports bettors, year-on-year.
The report also showed that while the US gambling customer base grows more quickly and spends more money than the global average, customer retention and engagement are lower.
US players were active an average of 7.9 days during the month, compared to 8.9 days globally. Customer retention was also slightly lower than the global average of 71%, at only 65% in the US.
