This year’s G2E will recognize the influence of igaming and sports betting

One of the seismic shifts in the United States gaming industry occurred in 2018, when the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act was repealed by Congress.
Suddenly, the floodgates for sports betting were flung open, and igaming emerged as a viable option for operators.
This year’s Global Gaming Expo, the 25th edition of the gaming industry’s premier convention, will reflect the industry’s relatively new interests in sports betting and igaming.
“There have been a lot of companies, whether they’re suppliers or operators, who have done business in other geographical regions of the world before PASPA was repealed,” says Korbi Carrison, RX USA Event Vice President, G2E.
“I think the biggest thing that we did to prepare for them to do business at G2E was listen to what their needs were, and to be open-minded and to not make assumptions that there would be a copy-and-paste model from their engagements in other geographical regions,” Carrison told CDC Gaming. “We really listened to them and made sure that we were creating an environment that was the right environment for them to do business here for their American opportunities, as well as the business that they carry on globally.”
G2E takes place October 6-9 at the Venetian Convention Center & Expo in Las Vegas. Registration opened June 25.
Carrison says it’s important to remember that before G2E, there were other conventions and trade shows in Las Vegas devoted to the gaming industry. G2E, however, was the first trade show “led by the industry meant to be for the industry,” Carrison says. “That’s what really sets it apart, that it was born from an (American Gaming Association) idea that the industry should be leading a show. From there, the concept developed.”
This year’s convention includes an igaming zone, with space devoted to geolocation technologies, payment providers and processors, game developers and content providers, and other related topics. Panels scheduled related to igaming this year include:
- Digital Identity, Risk, and Fraud in iGaming by 2025
- Guarding the Game: Navigating the Intersection of Sports Betting and Sport Integrity
- The Evolving Role of Regulators in the Online Casino Landscape
