Tennessee Sports Wagering Council fines online sportsbook US$50,000

The Tennessee Sports Wagering Council has fined offshore sportsbook BUSR US$50,000 for operating without a license in Tennessee.
This marks the fifth such penalty issued by the Tennessee Sports Wagering Council, totaling US$250,000 in fines against unauthorized sportsbooks.
BUSR ignored a March cease-and-desist letter, prompting the fine as part of the Council’s ongoing efforts to eliminate illegal betting operations in the state.
In April, the regulator fined operators BetUs, MyBookie, and Xbet US$150,000. Additionally, in November 2024, Bovada ceased operations in Tennessee after receiving a US$50,000 fine.
Earlier this month, the Sports Wagering Council issued a cease-and-desist letter to Lowvig, another illegal operator.
Tennessee Sports Wagering Council Executive Director Mary Beth Thomas said, “Our mission is to protect the public interest of Tennessee through a safe and regulated sports betting environment, and we encourage any bettors using BUSR to withdraw their money immediately.
“In contrast to our legal sportsbooks, illegal operators do not offer any of the same consumer protections the law requires of licensed entities, and we will continue this important work to eliminate these bad actors from Tennessee.”
The Tennessee Sports Gaming Act allows fines of US$10,000 for a first offense, US$15,000 for a second, and US$25,000 for a third. Subsequent violations incur a fine of US$25,000 per violation.
