Rush Street Interactive has launched a new initiative designed to help teenagers make informed gambling decisions.

Gaming Literacy Aiding Decisions is being organized in partnership with sports compliance consultancy IC360.

According to Rush Street, it aims to help teachers improve gaming literacy among high school students.

Gaming Literacy Aiding Decisions will launch in Delaware and New Jersey this spring. The initial work with educational districts will help shape the program’s future through feedback, enabling teachers to create content that best resonates with high schoolers.

Speaking about the program, Rush Interactive Chief Executive Officer Richard Schwartz, said that it was essential to empower young people to be able to navigate the challenges posed by changing technology and easier access to gambling.

“Like any material societal change, this evolution requires thoughtful education and honest, open dialogue – particularly for youth who are coming of age in an environment where these choices are all around them. I’ve seen this firsthand with young people in my own community. It’s clear that exposure is growing, and with it, the need for responsible frameworks,” Schwartz said.

The initiative comes at a time when concerns about the dangers of underage gambling are growing.

In March, a report from the National Council of Problem Gambling found that between 60 and 80% of high school students had gambled at least once in 2023. An NCAA survey in the same year found that nearly 60% of 18 to 22-year-olds gambled on sports events.
