Regulated sports betting exchange group RSBIX, in partnership with UK-licensed betting exchange Matchbook, has submitted a bid to launch event contracts with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

According to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s website, RSBIX submitted its application on 16 September and is currently “marked as “pending.”

RSBIX noted on its website, “In partnership with Matchbook, one of the world’s leading sports exchange operators, and through close collaboration with stakeholders across multiple sectors, RSBIX’s vision is to become the most trusted sports event trading platform in the United States. RSBIX has submitted an application to the Commodity and Futures Trading Commission, for designation as a Designated Contracts Market.”

The news was first reported by VegasSlotsOnline.

RSBIX founder Jeff Ifrah is also a prominent online gaming lawyer known for representing sportsbook operators Bet365 and FanDuel. He founded the gambling advocacy group iDevelopment and Economic Association.

This is not the only time RSBIX has applied for an event contract license. In 2020, the sports betting exchange also submitted a bid, this time with the crypto exchange group Eris Exchange, to launch NFL futures contracts.

However, following opposing comments from the NFL and American Gaming Association, as well as a review from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Eris Exchange withdrew its application.

In related news, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission has also given the go-ahead to prediction market platform Polymarket, issuing a no-action letter to the prediction site, allowing for its US return.
