Nineteen igaming companies in the Philippines have created a safe gambling organization called the PlaySafe Alliance of the Philippines.

The alliance aims to promote safe gambling and regulatory reform as the government discusses the industry’s future.

Launched at an event in Taguig City, the alliance includes well-known operators such as DigiPlus Interactive and World Platinum Technologies.

The group has committed to increasing consumer protection, ensuring regulatory compliance, and tackling the problem of illegal igaming, which some estimates say represents around 70% of the local market.

“The real enemy when it comes to online gambling is the illegal market. No license, no regulation; minors can play, no taxes are paid, and rules are not followed. Instead of being protected, the public is put at risk,” said the President of World Platinum Technologies Mike Defensor.

The alliance plans to work with the national regulator, PAGCOR, to strengthen oversight, improve marketing standards, and roll out stronger policies, including age checks and self-exclusion tools. It also plans to set up a 24/7 gambling helpline and a national research and treatment program.

The launch comes at a time of increased scrutiny about the social and economic effect of igaming in the Philippines.
