Ontario igaming sector enjoys second best revenue month

The igaming sector in the Canadian province of Ontario has recorded its second best month for revenue since launching in 2022.
Figures released by the market’s managing organization, Ontario iGaming, show that the sector generated C$313.3 million in non-adjusted gross gaming revenue in April, up 6% from March.
The best monthly figure was recorded in January, when revenue hit C$328 million. That’s the only other month where Ontario online gambling operators have generated more than C$300 million.
Casino games represented the biggest share of the April figure at C$242.8 million or 78% of the igaming market. Sports betting revenue was C$64.5 million, or 21%, of the market, while person-to-person poker contributed 2%.
Ontario became the first Canadian province to allow third-party online gambling operators to launch in April 2022. There are 49 operators licensed by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, providing 83 regulated sites.
Recently Alberta lawmakers passed Bill 48, or the iGaming Alberta Act, which will allow the province to set up a rival market to Ontario pending Royal Assent.
