OLG and Woodbine launch online horse race betting in Ontario

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation has partnered with horse racing operator Woodbine Entertainment Group to add live race betting to OLG.ca and the OLG app.
Through Woodbine’s HPIbet platform, players can bet on live races at Ontario tracks, including the King’s Plate on 16 August, and races worldwide.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation is the first Canadian provincial lottery and gaming agency to integrate an online horse race wagering product into its digital channels.
Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation Chief Gaming Officer Dave Pridmore said, “We are excited to offer access to this experience to our online players, providing another way for them to engage in the thrilling sport of horse racing. This collaboration represents an important step in our mandate of supporting the sport and a vibrant, competitive and sustainable horse racing industry in Ontario.”
The product uses pari-mutuel wagering, the only legal form of betting on horse racing in Canada, where bets are pooled and winners share the pot.
Woodbine Entertainment Chief Executive Michael Copeland added, “This launch brings the excitement of horse racing to even more people across the province in a convenient and modern way — enhancing the experience for bettors while driving new interest in our sport.”
The partnership with Woodbine follows the crown corporation’s recent slot launch of Red Panda Tails of Wealth in June. The slot is designed with accessible features to boost inclusivity in Ontario.
