North Carolina sports betting revenue up over 100% month-on-month

North Carolina bettors generated US$74.5 million in gross wagering revenue in January as reported by the North Carolina State Lottery Commission, a 100% month-on-month increase.
Bettors in the state also wagered US$646.9 million last month, which was up almost US$20 million compared to December 2024.
However, winning payouts declined in January, from US$590.8 million in December to US$568.4 million.
In addition, North Carolina bettors had wagered more than US$6 billion in the past 11 months, just before last Sunday’s Super Bowl game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.
The North Carolina State Lottery Commission regulates legal sports betting in the state. It also licenses sports betting operators and collects an 18% tax on gross wagering revenue.
Operators in North Carolina paid US$13.4 million in state taxes last month and have paid over US$118 million in taxes since online sportsbooks became legalized on March 11.
This tax money supports gambling addiction education and treatment programs and amateur sports programs within North Carolina.
