NFL reports zero gambling suspensions in 2024 season

The NFL has reported that no players were suspended for violating the league’s gambling policy during the 2024 season. This is down from ten players in the previous year.
During training camp, the league instructed teams that players were prohibited from betting on NFL games or gambling in any way while on the clock.
This included being present at team facilities or while traveling with the team. Each team’s respective head coach held education sessions, and former players reported also making the journey to attend.
The NFL’s policy also bars players from participating in daily fantasy football or sharing internal information with outsiders. It has remained unchanged since 2024.
Legal sports betting has increased the potential for harassment of athletes, both online and in person, according to the NFL.
NFL Executive Vice President For Player Health And Safety Jeff Miller said, “It’s a very real-world issue, and it’s one we take with the most seriousness.”
The league also takes necessary precautions to protect athletes from receiving sports betting-related abuse.
NFL security monitors threats on social media and works with local law enforcement or team security as needed. Meanwhile, fans who are found to have harassed players can be banned from stadiums and may face prosecution.
The NFL isn’t the only sports franchise to call out gambling abuse aimed at players. Last week, the NBA and its players’ association called for restricting betting markets to curb possible athlete interference and abuse.
