New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has proposed new amendments to its responsible gambling rules to ensure stronger protections for gamblers.

These practices have existed previously but have not been mandatory for gambling operators in the state until now.

One of the rules will require gambling operators in the state to flag potential problem gamblers and offer them help.

The system will be data-driven, with operators required to maintain a list of problem gamblers based on their betting behavior. A person can then be removed from the list if they have not exhibited any other concerning gambling habits in 180 days.

According to the amendments, operators will be required to look out for 12 specific ‘triggers’, such as accessing responsible gambling tools multiple times within a set time period or meeting a maximum deposit threshold.

Luis Del Orbe, Executive Director of the Council On Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey, compared the new rules to a bartender being able to cut off a customer when they believe they have had too much to drink.

He also acknowledged that there may be growing pains with the implementation of the rules, adding, “But this is also a privacy issue. It involves digging into people’s accounts. We want to see how they roll this out and enforce it. This really is a public health issue.”

In recent news, Hard Rock Bet, in partnership with slot developer Games Global, released 9 Nekos of Fortune for New Jersey residents.
