Missouri sports betting market to launch on 1 December

Missouri Gaming Commission chairwoman Jan Zimmerman reveals that the state’s sports betting market will launch on 1 December, and not sooner.
The news comes after the Missouri Gaming Commission opened its application process for operators interested in gaining a gambling license. Bids for both tethered and untethered sportsbook licenses are set to close on 12 September.
“The process is very detailed by design, because we want to make sure that the people who get a license in the state of Missouri are people who should get a license… It takes that long to get all of the information that we need, get the Ts crossed and the Is dotted, to make sure that we’re issuing the licenses appropriately,” Zimmerman said.
Missouri councilman Wes Rogers also disclosed that the tax revenue generated from the new sports betting market is vital for the state and will prevent it from losing gambling revenue to neighboring states, Kansas and Illinois.
Rogers said that the regulated market would keep specific sports teams in Missouri, like the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals. The teams will soon be able to operate sportsbooks from their respective stadiums as well as online.
