Michigan Gaming Control Board targets Panama-based operators with cease-and-desist orders

The Michigan Gaming Control Board has issued cease-and-desist orders to Panama-based SportsBetting.ag and BetOnline for providing unlawful gambling in the state.
The orders refer to breaches of the Lawful Internet Gaming Act, Gaming Control and Revenue Act, and the Michigan Penal Code.
Following an anonymous tip, the regulator’s investigations revealed that SportsBetting.ag was illegally accepting wagers on sports, horse races, politics, table games, card games, and virtual casino games, while offering cash-back incentives for casino losses.
BetOnline.ag was found to be allowing unauthorized betting on sports, live events, casino-style games (including slots, table games, blackjack, and poker), horse racing, esports, and contest tournaments.
Neither platform has operating licenses in Michigan, but they both accept real-money wagers via credit cards, wire transfers, and cryptocurrency, breaching the state’s regulations.
Michigan Gaming Control Board Executive Director Henry Williams emphasized the agency’s commitment to consumer protection, stating, “The Michigan Gaming Control Board is dedicated to enforcing gaming laws and ensuring safe, fair experiences through licensed platforms.”
The Michigan Gaming Control Board has given both operators 14 days to halt all Michigan operations. Refusing to comply would lead to additional action in coordination with the Michigan Attorney General’s Office.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board is urging residents to use licensed and regulated online gaming sites to avoid some of the hazards related to illegal operators.
