Michigan Gaming Control Board directs bettors to licensed sites for March Madness betting

The Michigan Gaming Control Board has outlined guidance for bettors ahead of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship Game on 7 April.
The press release encourages bettors to use only platforms licensed by the Michigan Gaming Control Board, as these are the only platforms legally allowed to provide real-money online sports betting in the state.
It also points out some benefits of playing with a licensed sports betting platform, including SSL encryption, fairness and access to responsible gambling measures.
“As millions of fans gear up to watch the NCAA Championship, we want to remind Michigan residents to enjoy March Madness safely and legally by placing their bets on licensed platforms,” Executive Director of the Michigan Gaming Control Board Henry Williams said in the release. “Betting on illegal, offshore websites exposes you to risks such as fraud, unfair play and a lack of responsible gaming support. It’s critical that bettors use platforms regulated by the state to protect themselves and their personal information.”
The NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship, also known as March Madness, has been running since 18 March. The Final Four games between Auburn and Florida and Duke and Houston will occur on 5 April.
March Madness is one of the most significant betting events in the US. Although H2 Gambling Capital expects the betting handle for the 2025 competition to fall around 1.5% year-over-year, it still anticipates US$2.9 billion in wagers.
