Massachusetts sports betting revenue hits US$65.4 million for April

Massachusetts’ sports betting sector enjoyed a successful April, generating combined revenue of US$65.4 million, up from US$49.4 million in April last year, representing a year-on-year increase of 32.4%.
The state’s regulator, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, also revealed in its financial report that wagers settled reached US$676.1 million, up from the previous year’s total, which recorded US$591.5 million.
Of the state’s seven online sports betting operators, DraftKings provided the strongest performance in April, generating US$38.6 million in revenue, representing a 42% year-on-year rise, enabling it to pull a long way ahead of Massachusetts-based rival FanDuel, which recorded US$17.9 million, a fall of 9% on the figure for last April.
The two companies accounted for 87% of the month’s online sports betting revenue together compared to the other five sportsbook operators.
BetMGM was the best of the rest, generating US$4.1 million in revenue, while Caesars Sportsbook was the poorest performer, recording revenue of less than a million.
The strong overall April performance also provided a significant boost to the Bay State’s coffers. The combined retail and online sports betting tax contribution for the month was US$13.2 million, taking the year-to-date figure to more than US$55 million.
