The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Commission is responsible for regulating online sportsbooks in Maryland since it launched in November 2022.

So far, 11 operators are licensed in the state, including Bally Bet, BetMGM, BetParx, BetRivers, Caesars Sportsbook, Crab Sports Maryland, DraftKings, ESPN Bet, Fanatics, FanDuel, and LetsBetMD.

All licensed sportsbooks must pay a sports wagering tax of 15%. February 2025 was the ninth-best month for Maryland’s sports betting market, with US$6.3 million in taxes generated from mobile and retail sportsbooks.

Since sports wagering was legalized, US$153.3 million in taxes have been generated. This money has gone towards the Problem Gambling Fund and the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, which helps improve state education.

While Maryland allows retail and mobile sports betting operators, most bets are placed on online platforms. Retail sportsbooks only generated US$12.5 million in wagers last month compared to online sportsbooks, a US$450.6 million difference.
