Mandya Police crackdown on illegal igaming in India

Police in Mandya, a city in the Indian state of Karnataka, have created specialized teams to deal with illegal ibetting.
The Times of India has reported that the Mandya Police has increased its focus on dismantling betting networks by monitoring online platforms and conducting raids to arrest the people running the illegal online operations.
The police have taken action after concerns from the local community amid the Indian Premier League cricket season, which started on 22 March and runs until 25 May. Those concerns include reports of local people who committed suicide after losses from ibetting.
“It has come to our attention that online and IPL betting are prevalent in the district,” Superintendent of Police in Mandya Mallikarjun Baladandi told the Times of India. “We took this issue very seriously and formed specialised teams to monitor the situation. We conducted several raids related to IPL betting and registered a number of cases. We are committed to taking strict action against those involved in or encouraging illegal betting, including online IPL betting.”
