Iowa online sportsbooks generate US$258 million of handle in December

Iowa sports betting handle reached over US$293.1 million in December, the Iowa Gaming and Racing Commission has reported.

US$258.3 million of this was generated by online sportsbooks, and a further US$24.4 million was spent at retail sportsbooks.

It was a good month for online sportsbook operators, with BetMGM and Bet365 seeing an increase in sports betting handles compared to November figures.

The BetMGM sports betting handle hit US$24.1 million, while Bet365 saw US$17.4 million. Meanwhile, BetRivers and Circa Sports reported a rise in revenue for December.

Out of the state’s sportsbook operators, DraftKings generated the highest handle at US$99.3 million, a year-on-year increase from US$94.6 million in December 2023.

FanDuel reported the second-highest handle for the state, over $78.4 million, another year-on-year increase from US$67.5 million.

Unfortunately, ESPN Bet’s revenue decreased the most, from US$17.1 million in December 2023 to US$7.9 million, accounting for a deduction of nearly US$10 million over the year. The operator’s handle also decreased year-on-year from US$18.8 million to US$7.9 million.
