India blocks 357 offshore igaming platforms

The Director General of Goods and Service Tax Intelligence in India has blocked 357 links for offshore igaming platforms.
The Hindustan Times reports that Jitin Prasada, the Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, confirmed the statistics while speaking to Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Parliament of India.
“So far, 357 websites/URLs of illegal/non-compliant offshore online money gaming platforms have been blocked by the DGGI, in coordination with MeitY, under the IT Act,” Prasada said.
In coordination with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the Directorate General of Goods and Service Tax Intelligence has sent takedown notices to these sites under Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology Act.
Using Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has blocked more than 1,4000 sites and apps related to illegal gambling from January 2022 to February 2025.
During an investigation into illegal offshore gambling operations, the Directorate General of Goods and Service Tax Intelligence has blocked around 2,400 bank accounts, freezing around ₹1,260,000,000.
