Goa police stop illegal IPL betting operation through online apps

Goa police have completed two raids against illegal Indian Premier League online betting organizations.
Officers found 101 mobile phones and 17 laptops used to operate the illegal gambling operation. The police also took 145 ATM cards, 50 SIM cards, 95 bank passbooks and a checkbook.
The operation used the Reddy, Lotus and Lionking 247 Bet apps to encourage players to deposit money and wager on Indian cricket. Those arrested provided customer support to bettors.
Speaking to The Times of India, Crime Branch Superintendent Rahul Gupta said, “We developed the input we received. We carried out two different raids, one at Nagoa where three floors of a building were rented out; and the second at Bambolim at a villa. We arrested 26 accused at Nagoa and eight at Bambolim. In all, 34 persons have been arrested.”
The gambling operation seems to point to evidence of a more extensive operation, with Gupta saying that those arrested came from all over the country and seem to have links to other agents in India and other countries.
The case will be investigated further by Police Inspector Prashal Desai and Police Inspector Laxi Amonkar.
