Filipino gaming technology firm DigiPlus Interactive has revealed plans to expand into South Africa, representing the latest stage of its global expansion strategy.

As part of its expansion into South Africa, DigiPlus is preparing to file for three licenses with the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, including a National Manufacturer License, Bookmaker License, and Bookmaker Premises License.

The licensing process will include extensive probity checks, followed by board reviews and platform testing, with a timeline of at least six months from submission.

South Africa’s online betting sector was valued at over ZAR28.97 billion in 2023 and 2024, and annual growth is projected at up to 5%.

Mobile usage, digital engagement, and strong demand for live sports betting appear to be fuelling the growth. Digital sports betting already accounts for nearly half of total gaming revenue.

DigiPlus Chairman, Eusebio Tanco, said, “We are thrilled to take this next bold step in our international journey. South Africa is not just the largest online gaming market in Africa, it’s a gateway to the continent’s digital future.

“As we expand from Southeast Asia to Latin America and now Africa, we remain committed to responsible innovation, local compliance, and developing products that connect deeply with culture and community.”

Earlier in the month, DigiPlus also announced that it would enter the Brazilian-regulated market in September.
