Connecticut regulator reminds residents to bet safely during March Madness

The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection Gaming Division, along with the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the Connecticut Council of Problem Gambling, are urging residents to gamble safely during the upcoming NCAA Basketball Tournament.
The Gaming Division reiterates that FanDuel, DraftKings and Fanatics remain the only licensed online sportsbooks in the state. Bettors must be wary when gambling during March Madness and avoid unlicensed operators.
“We know that March Madness can be an exciting time for those who participate in sports betting, but we want to encourage you to do so responsibly. Before you play, create a game plan. Set time and money limits, know your odds, use the necessary resources and only engage with legal online platforms. If you play on illegal offshore gaming sites, you run the risk of having your money and personal information stolen, with little to no recourse,” Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner Bryan T. Cafferelli said.
A report published by the American Gaming Association estimates that Americans will wager up to US$3.1 billion during March Madness, up from the US$2.7 billion bet during the previous NCAA Basketball Tournament.
The Department of Consumer Protection also has provided gambling resources to help anyone seeking help. This includes a link allowing bettors to exclude themselves from gambling-related activities voluntarily.
