The Canadian Lottery Coalition has sought an injunction against offshore operator Bodog for operating in Canadian provinces.

Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries filed the application with the Manitoba Court of King’s Bench on behalf of the Canadian Lottery Coalition.

The injunction states that the Antigua and Barbuda-based online poker platforms Bodog.eu and Bodog.net were breaking the law by offering gambling services to players based in Manitoba.

Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries has the sole legal authority over gambling in Manitoba and is looking to bar Bodog from operating and advertising throughout the province.

The application for injunction alleges that Bodog promotes itself as lawful and safe. A previous request to suspend operations in the province had already been sent but was refused by Bodog.

The Canadian Lottery Coalition comprises gaming corporations across Canada and was established in 2022 to help combat the spread of offshore gambling sites.

Will Hill, the Canadian Lottery Coalition’s Executive Director, said, “There are really two particular goals here: one, securing an injunction against an illegal operator within Manitoba, and two, validating the coalition’s general position on illegal gambling more broadly.”
