Cambodia police raid illegal igaming operation

Police in the Cambodia Internet Security Department in the Ministry of Interior say they have caught around 170 foreign nationals running an illegal igaming operation.
The Khmer Times reported that a court deputy prosecutor ordered a raid on a location in Cambodia’s capital of Phnom Penh on Monday night, finding foreign nationals from China, Vietnam and Myanmar involved in the alleged online gambling operation.
“After police operation, the authorities confiscated a number of laptops, computers, mobile phones, passports, as well as other related materials from them,” Deputy Chief of the Internal Security Police Unit Lieutenant Colonel Lim Vannarith told the Khmer Times.
The authorities believe many of the foreign nationals found in the condo were trafficked or kidnapped and that the condo also was being used for drug use along with illegal gambling.
All those arrested have been sent for detention at the General Department of Immigration in the Ministry of Interior for further investigation. After investigation, any detainees found not to have broken the law will be deported back to their country.
Prime Minister Hun Sun temporarily halted igaming operations in Cambodia in August 2019 before making the move permanent.
