BetMGM to take over MGM Resorts Nevada sportsbooks

Sportsbook and online gaming operator BetMGM will take over MGM Resort International’s Las Vegas sportsbooks this summer, CDC Gaming reports.
BetMGM is owned 50/50 by Entain PLC and MGM Resorts International.
In early 2024, BetMGM launched its mobile sportsbook app in Las Vegas, though MGM Holdings retained operational control. The app accompanied the nine Las Vegas sportsbooks owned by MGM Resorts.
The BetMGM takeover of MGM’s sportsbooks was previously approved in December, granting additional licenses to manage these operations. This week, the Nevada Gaming Commission heard discussions regarding the licensing process.
“This licensing structure was discussed with the board chair at the time and we believed it was adequate to allow BetMGM to have substantial involvement in the race and sportsbook operations of MGM Resorts and its subsidiaries,” CDC Gaming reported Scott Scherer, private counsel at BetMGM, as saying. “But over time, concerns arose about BetMGM’s role in the race and sportsbook operations.”
If approved, it would allow BetMGM to take over the sportsbook hub at Mandalay Bay Casino, with the remaining eight sportsbooks to become satellites.
Because of complications in the transition, the takeover is set to happen when sports betting is slowed down. Scherer added, “We want to make sure it’s done right and that everything is in place.”
