The Australian Communications and Media Authority has issued a remedial direction to Australian sportsbook ReadyBet after the operator targeted customers who had registered with the national self-exclusion register, BetStop.

The remedial direction instructed the company to provide information for an external auditor who will work with ReadyBet to conduct a written audit within 30 days. The operator must also issue staff training to prevent messages from being sent to individuals registered with BetStop.

The regulator’s investigation found that from August to December 2023, ReadyBet sent 273 texts and push notifications from its mobile app to individuals registered with the self-exclusion register.

Despite being mandatory, the company also failed to promote BetStop in 2,342 push notifications.

If ReadyBet does not comply with the remedial direction, the Australian Communications and Media Authority may seek civil penalties against the company.
