In an investigation by the gambling regulator, BlueBet’s VIP manager was found not to have received harm minimization training. The regulator also criticized BlueBet for not following up on obvious ‘red flag behaviors’ initiated by the man.
Bluebet argued that it had contacted the man for a “responsible gaming check-in”, however this call was not answered. The call was shown to have been prompted partially due to payment issues after the man failed to place bets on his credit card.
In its decision, the Northern Territory Racing and Wagering Commission said, “BlueBet missed multiple opportunities for timely and appropriate action, and it’s disappointing that the responsibility fell on the complainant rather than BlueBet taking a more assertive role in protecting the complainant from further harm.”
BlueBet is not the only operator under scrutiny in Australia, as earlier this month, QuestBet also faced fines for neglecting action for a customer who experienced gambling-related stress.
