Australian government gives green light for PointsBet takeover

The Australian government has given the go-ahead for the takeover of Australian sportsbook operator PointsBet by the Japanese entertainment group Mixi.

According to a holding update issued by PointsBet, Mixi will acquire up to 100% of the operator’s shares.

The update explains that the Australian Commonwealth Government is satisfied that the takeover meets the criteria set out in the Foreign Acquisition and Takeovers Act 1975. However, as PointsBet also has a presence in Ontario, the takeover will still to be approved by that province’s gambling regulator, the  Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and iGaming Ontario.
