The college basketball tournaments, organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, run throughout March, creating popular betting opportunities for sportsbook enthusiasts and online sports bettors. The general rise in bets gives the season its colloquial moniker, “March Madness.”

“March Madness is one of the most exciting times in American sports, with fans fired up for both the men’s and women’s NCAA tournaments,” Joe Maloney, Senior Vice President of Strategic Communications for the American Gaming Association, said in a statement. “As legal wagering expands across the US, more fans than ever have the opportunity to bet legally and responsibly.”

The national educational campaign, “Have A Game Plan. Bet Responsibly,” runs in tandem with March Maddness to promote safe and responsible gambling practices.

According to the American Gaming Association, the campaign’s key principles are “Set a Budget,” “Keep it Social,” “Know the Odds,” ‘Play Legally” and “Keep Your Cool.”

“‘Keep Your Cool,’ our newest ‘Have A Game Plan’ principle, is all about keeping betting fun and respecting the game — no matter how unpredictable March Madness becomes,” Maloney added.
