SPGA attacks Play’n Go over black market presence

The Social and Promotional Games Association, an organization representing online sweepstakes platforms, has criticized online casino developer Play’n Go after a report revealed that some of its biggest games are available on black market casino sites.
In May, Play’n Go CEO, Johan Tornqvist said that the company would not make its games available to the sweepstakes gaming sector, stating that sweepstakes sites do not operate inside a regulated framework, and that Play’n Go did not support that.
The Social and Promotional Games Association has hit back, citing a report from industry compliance consultants Compliance+More.
According to the report, several Play’n Go titles, including Mission Cash, Pilgrim of the Dead, and Book of the Dead, have appeared on two Curacao-licensed sites. The two sites, FoxyGold.com and Goldspin, make their games available to players in the Netherlands and Germany despite not having a license to operate in those territories.
Foxy Gold is operated by EOD Code, a Costa Rican company that also operates several crypto-based and black market sites.
Shawn Fluharty, Head of Government Affairs at Play’n Go, said the two sites appeared to have bought the games from large resellers and held international licenses.
He added that it was a matter for regulators if they had been targeting regulated markets.
“If there is suspicion that they are also providing games to regulated jurisdictions without the proper licenses in place, then the relevant regulators should be notified so they may take appropriate action,” Fluharty told Compliance+More.
